We are Toby and Kate! Toby works in travel and Kate works in fashion. We share a love for nature and the outdoors, and have visited Wales many times to escape the city, and enjoy the fresh air and quieter life.
We stumbled across the Upper Towy Valley by sheer coincidence and fell in love with its open wilderness, ancient forests and countless waterfalls, all without the crowds of the Brecon Beacons. Its not just the natural beauty that drew us in! We also loved the nods to the past that the area clings on to; the quaint market towns of Llandeilo, Lampeter and Llandovery are full of independent and local businesses, the pubs are packed with friendly locals, and there are shops that have retained traditions from a bygone era. It’s a really special place where life just slows down.
We won’t forget the first time we arrived at Troedyrhiwfer Cottage, it was so quiet and picture-perfect.. it was love at first sight! We were struck by the sheer greenery of the Celtic rainforest, the epic mountain views and the sound of the waterfall at the back of the garden.
We tried to capture everything we love about the area in the interior of the cottage. Sourcing items as locally as possible, and keeping the cottage character as it was centuries ago. Furniture was sourced from our favorite antique shop, the Welsh Vernacular, and blankets from Jen Jones Welsh Quilts – both a must visit during your stay! We commissioned an artist to make botanical drawings of the fauna unique to the Celtic rainforest where the cottage is.
We hope you love our cottage as much as we do x
