One of our favourite walks that takes you through a Celtic rainforest described by the Guardian as ‘Magical’ - and a must do during your stay at Troedyrhiw Cottage . The walk at RSPB Gwenffrwd/Dinas is a 3.2km loop, starting with a boardwalk through Alder woods, then onto a rugged path through ancient Oak woodlands alongside the River Tywi. It features a mix of flat and elevated sections, suitable for those comfortable with uneven terrain. Key points include Twm Sion Cati's cave and St. Paulinus Church near the trailhead. Llyn Brianne Reservoir and Doethie Valley Circular Walk:

The Llyn Brianne to Doethie Valley walk is a 13.5-mile trek through stunning Welsh countryside, starting at the Llyn Brianne reservoir. The route encompasses a variety of landscapes, from the reservoir's edge to the enchanting Tywi forest, passing a quaint off-grid cottage, and winding through farmland with impressive valley views. The path descends into the spectacular Doethie Valley, described as one of Wales' most beautiful valleys, before returning alongside the river. Cwm Rhaeadr Waterfall Walk

Very close to our cottage the Cwm Rhaeadr Waterfall Walk is a peaceful trail through a pine forest leading to the tallest waterfall in Carmarthenshire. You can either drive five minutes from the cottage to the parking at the start of the trail, or take the public bridal way right from the cottage (adding an 1:30 hours to the walk). Nestled in a quiet woodland setting it's an accessible route for all walking abilities, aside from the last 10 minutes to the Waterfall which gets more steep. Llyn y Fan Fach walk

Starting Point: Llyn Y Fan Fach Car Park (40 Minute Drive)

The Llyn y Fan Fach walk in the Brecon Beacons covers a 9.2-mile circuit with a 720m elevation gain and is rated moderate in difficulty. The route offers stunning views of glacial lakes, mountain ridges, and provides a mix of easy and challenging terrains. Starting from Llyn Y Fan Fach Car Park, it includes points of interest such as Llyn Y Fan Fach, Bannau Sir Gaer, Fan Brycheiniog, and Llyn Y Fan Fawr.
